The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) published a notice of intention to accept the commitments made by Google in regards to the removal of third-party cookies on June 11, 2021. Furthermore, the CMA announced that it will take on an oversight role over Google's plans, making sure that effective competition is upheld. The consultation on whether to accept Google's proposals closed on July 8, 2021. If the consultation is accepted, Google's proposals would turn into legally binding commitments. In the meantime, Google announced on June 24, 2021, that it will delay the removal of third-party cookies. If the consultation is accepted, Google will remove third-party cookies by the end of 2023 while constantly engaging with UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) throughout the process.
