Announced CMA Phase 1 investigation into VMware acquisition by Broadcom
On 25 January 2023, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced its decision to launch a merger inquiry into the acquisition by Broadcom Inc., a supplier of semiconductor and infrastructure software products, of VMware Inc., a provider of multi-cloud services. The CMA will analyse whether the merger would result in a substantial lessening of competition in the semiconductor sector. The CMA stated that it would issue its preliminary findings and decide whether to open the Phase 2 investigation until 22 March 2023.
