Issued CMA findings following Phase 1 investigation into VMware acquisition by Broadcom

On 22 March 2023, the United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) issued its findings following the Phase 1 investigation into the acquisition of VMware Inc., a provider of multi-cloud services, by Broadcom Inc., a supplier of semiconductor and infrastructure software products. In particular, the CMA determined that the acquisition would negatively impact the competition in the semiconductor sector. The CMA offered Broadcom and VMware 5 working days to submit commitments addressing the competition concerns outlined in its decision, following which it will announce if the case will be referred to a Phase 2 investigation.
