On 7 May 2024, the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) entered into force with a grace period. The EMFA aims to increase and promote transparency regarding media ownership while introducing safeguards for editorial independence and media pluralism. The EMFA introduces, among other things, the right for consumers to customise the media offerings on their devices and interfaces. The media services providers and entities developing and introducing devices and user interfaces in the European market will be required to add a functionality that enables users to change the default settings to control the media services. The requirements will be implemented on 8 May 2027.
