On 13 March 2024, the European Parliament passed the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), which aims to increase and promote transparency regarding media ownership while introducing safeguards for editorial independence and media pluralism. The EMFA introduces, among other things, the right for consumers to customise the media offerings on their devices and interfaces. The media services providers and entities developing and introducing devices and user interfaces in the European Market will be required to add a functionality that enables users to change the default settings controlling the media services. The Act now goes to the Council for the final adoption.
