On 8 February 2024, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union reached a new provisional agreement on the Directive on improving working conditions in platform work, including mandatory data sharing requirements. The previous agreement reached on 13 December 2023 was renegotiated by the Belgian presidency after the last presidency determined that a majority in Coreper could not be reached. In particular, the digital labour platforms will be required to provide data on the number of persons performing platform work and contractual conditions for such work in the Member State on which the person is based. Additionally, the responsible labour and social protection authorities of Member States will have the power to ask for additional clarifications on such data. Furthermore, under the agreement, Member States will be required to adopt measures to ensure that individuals performing platform work through intermediary organisations have the same level of protection. The reached agreement will now be legally revised and will go to the Parliament and Council for formal adoption.
