Brazil: Ordered suspension of sales of Hurb's Flexible Travel Packages over alleged violations of consumer regulation

On 29 May 2023, the Brazilian National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon) decided to temporarily suspend the sale of new flexible travel packages by Hurb (formerly Hotel Urbano) due to irregularities found in its business practices. The suspension aims to protect consumers and ensure that existing issues are addressed before new sales are allowed. Hurb is required to present a concrete resolution plan for current contracts and demonstrate that the identified flaws have been rectified. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in daily fines and other administrative penalties. The suspension applies specifically to flexible packages, while other services of the company remain available. Hurb had previously been notified about consumer complaints and was asked to provide clarifications but failed to adequately address the issues. The recent increase in customer reports regarding travel cancellations, inadequate accommodations, and lack of assistance led to this precautionary measure. Senacon advises affected consumers to explore refund or rescheduling options and register complaints with relevant consumer protection agencies.
