On 27 December 2022, Directive 2022/2380 on harmonisation of the laws of the Member States relating to the making available on the market of radio equipment came into effect (20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union) with a grace period on its enforcement until 28 December 2024. The Directive harmonises chargers for most electronic devices to the USB-C standard which is now the required port for smartphones, tablets, headphones, speakers, and game consoles, among others. Furthermore, the producers of chargers are bound to install the same fast charging technology across devices. Finally, chargers are to be sold separately from electronic devices.
