On 7 September 2022, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) opened a consultation on the fifth chapter of its draft guidance on “Anonymisation, pseudonymisation and privacy-enhancing technologies”. The fifth chapter provides guidance on the use of privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) for complying with data protection obligations. The draft guidance on PETs stresses that data protection technologies can help organisations use people's data securely by minimising the amount of data used and encrypting or anonymising personal information. In particular, the draft PETs guidance explains the benefits and different types of PETs currently available and highlights their use for better compliance with data protection regulations. The consultation closes on 16 September 2022.
