On 19 February 2024, the House of Lords passed the Automated Vehicles Bill. The Bill regulated the use of automated vehicles on roads and in other public places and made related provisions concerning vehicle automation. Its content covered the authorisation of vehicles for automated use, licensing of operators for vehicle use without a user-in-charge, collection and sharing of information by regulated bodies, investigative powers, civil sanctions, criminal liability for vehicle use, policing and investigation, marketing restrictions, permits for automated passenger services, adaptation of existing regimes, and general provisions.
