On 10 July 2025, the European Commission published the final version of the General-Purpose Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Code of Practice (Code), including transparency obligations. The chairs of the working group noted that the code balances industry and civil society concerns and will guide GPAI model compliance ahead of the 2 August 2025 enforcement date. Developed in line with the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, the Code requires providers of general-purpose AI models, excluding qualifying open-source models unless they pose systemic risks, to maintain and update detailed technical documentation, share it with the AI Office and national authorities upon request, and assist downstream providers in meeting their legal obligations. Providers must retain documentation for 10 years, safeguard confidential business information, ensure data integrity, and are encouraged to publish selected information voluntarily.
