On 10 July 2025, the European Commission published the final version of the General-Purpose Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Code of Practice (Code), including transparency obligations. The GPAI Code supports compliance with Article 53(1) of the EU Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act that requires providers of general-purpose AI models to provide detailed technical documentation. The Code applies to providers of general-purpose AI models, excluding qualifying open-source models unless they pose systemic risks. It sets out obligations to document and update model information, share it with the AI Office and national authorities upon request, and support downstream providers in meeting their own legal duties. Providers must retain documentation for 10 years, safeguard confidential business information, ensure data integrity, and are encouraged to disclose some information publicly.
