On 11 March 2025, the European Commission published the third draft of the General-Purpose Artificial Intelligence (AI) Code of Practice and opened a consultation until 30 March 2025. Under the Transparency section, providers of general-purpose AI models must comply with Articles 53(1)(a) and (b) AI Act by preparing and maintaining a Model Documentation Form containing information required by Annexes XI and XII AI Act. The documentation must include details on model architecture, capabilities, training datasets, energy consumption, and evaluation results. Providers are required to proactively share relevant information with downstream providers and make additional documentation available to the AI Office or national competent authorities upon request. These transparency obligations also include commitments to data integrity, traceability, and version control, with a retention period of ten years following model market withdrawal.
