On 30 March 2025, the European Commission closes its consultation on the third draft of the General-Purpose Artificial Intelligence (AI) Code of Practice. Under the Transparency section, the draft codifies provider obligations under Article 53(1)(a) and (b) AI Act and Annexes XI and XII. Providers must prepare and maintain a “Model Documentation” file detailing model architecture, training data characteristics, energy use, and evaluation methods. Information must be shared proactively with downstream providers and disclosed to the AI Office or national competent authorities upon request. Confidentiality safeguards in Articles 53(7) and 78 AI Act apply. Signatories must ensure documentation accuracy, version control, and traceability and retain records for ten years after withdrawal from the Union market.
