On 19 December 2024, the European Commission published the second draft of the General-Purpose Artificial Intelligence (AI) Code of Practice (Code), which establishes transparency obligations for providers of general-purpose AI models. The obligations derive from Article 53(1), points (a) and (b) of the AI Act that require providers of general-purpose AI models to document technical information about their models to provide that information upon request to the AI Office and national competent authorities. The Code requires providers to maintain and disclose documentation including model identification details, intended uses and restrictions, training data sources and acquisition methods, and computational resources. It also requires documentation on testing processes, acceptable use policies, and technical integration specifications, with information provided to EU authorities upon request and to downstream AI system developers to ensure proper integration and compliance.
