On 7 January 2025, the White House announced the launch of the voluntary cybersecurity label for wireless consumer Internet of Things (IoT) products, known as the "U.S. Cyber Trust Mark." This label aims to enhance consumer awareness and incentivise manufacturers to adhere to higher cybersecurity standards. Accompanied by a QR code it aims to help buyers make informed choices and encourage manufacturers to meet higher cybersecurity standards and reduce risks. Oversight will be provided by the FCC, with third-party administrators managing activities such as product evaluation and consumer education. The White House also remarked on the selection of 11 private companies as "Cybersecurity Label Administrators", responsible for certifying the use of the label and day-to-day program management, who had been conditionally approved on 11 December 2024.
