Description

Implemented FCC Rule on Cybersecurity Labeling for Internet of Things

On 9 September 2024, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rule establishing a voluntary cybersecurity labelling program for wireless consumer Internet of Things (IoT) products enters into force. The program aims to enhance consumer awareness and incentivise manufacturers to adhere to higher cybersecurity standards. The "Cyber Trust Mark", accompanied by a QR code, shall help buyers make informed choices and encourage manufacturers to meet higher cybersecurity standards and reduce risks. Oversight is provided by the FCC, with third-party administrators managing activities such as product evaluation and consumer education. Accredited labs conduct compliance testing.
