On 23 August 2024, multiple provisions of The Media Act 2024 are implemented, as specified by The Media Act 2024 (Commencement No. 1) Regulations 2024. Under the Act, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) will be required to carry out a review of audience protection measures adopted by “on-demand programme service providers” non-UK on-demand programme services to ensure that audiences are appropriately protected from harmful content. This includes an examination of how children can access public service content. Specific audience protection measures include age rating or other classification systems, content warnings, parental controls and age assurance measures.
