European Union: Adopted Council approach on Regulation on data collection and sharing for short-term accommodation rentals including data protection measures

On 2 March 2023, the Council of the EU adopted its general approach on the Regulation on data collection and sharing relating to short-term accommodation rental services. The proposal seeks to harmonise and streamline the framework for data generation and data sharing on short-term accommodation rental services across the EU through the creation of a national “single digital entry point” for the transmission of data between online short-term rental platforms and the public authorities. The Regulation requires platforms to share data on their rentals every month with local authorities, including the listing address, the listing type, and personal information about the guests. The negotiations on the proposed Regulation will start after the Parliament issues its position.
