On 18 March 2024, the Council of the European Union adopted the regulation on data collection and sharing for short-term accommodation rentals, including data-sharing measures. The regulation aims to harmonise and streamline the framework for data generation and data sharing on short-term accommodation rental services across the EU through the creation of a national "single digital entry point" for the transmission of data between online short-term rental platforms and the public authorities. The regulation requires platforms to share data on their rentals every month with local authorities, including the listing address, the listing type, and personal information about the guests. Furthermore, the micro and small platforms that had 4'250 listings in the previous quarter would be required to submit the data every 3 months manually or by machine-to-machine communication means. The regulation enters into force 20 days following its publication in the Official Journal and will apply 24 months after it enters into force.
