The amendment of the NetzDG enters into force on 28 June 2021, following the publication of the law on 3 June 2021. However, most of the duties are implemented with a grace period until 1 February 2022. The amendment requires online platforms to provide additional information in their transparency reports and to make their complaint procedures more user friendly. Furthermore, the amendment mandates platforms to establish a procedure for appeal and arbitration, thus giving users the right to contest the platform’s decision to remove or not flagged content.
