Description

EU Parliament passes interoperability requirement in DMA

On 5 July 2022, the European Parliament passed the regulation on contestable and fair markets in the digital sector (Digital Markets Act). The adopted text states that gatekeepers should provide free of charge access to and interoperability with the same operating systems used by the gatekeeper to providers of ancillary services, understood as services offered in connection to or with the core platform services. Furthermore, the text specifies that gatekeepers should not be prevented from implementing measures to ensure that interoperability doesn't negatively impact the integrity of the operating systems, cyber security and protection of the end-user data. The text now goes to the Council for adoption.
