On 22 April 2026, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of Indonesia confirmed that YouTube will implement a minimum age requirement of 16 years for users in Indonesia, following Google’s submission of a compliance letter under Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the governance of electronic system implementation in child protection. The Ministry stated that the submission of the compliance letter reflects YouTube’s formal alignment with the regulation and noted that implementation is already being reflected in platform policy updates, including the application of age limits in community standards. The Ministry indicated that users under 16 are not permitted to hold accounts under the new requirements. The policy is being implemented in stages, with digital platforms adjusting their systems during a transition period. YouTube has also indicated plans to gradually deactivate children’s accounts and remove advertising targeted at children and adolescents. The Ministry has requested that platforms complete self-assessments within three months of the regulation’s entry into force.
