Partial Amendment to Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce (Bill No. 14874) including fair marketing and advertising practices enters into force

On 21 July 2026, the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce (Law No. 21312) entered into force, 6 months after promulgation on 20 January 2026. The Act applies to e-commerce operators and mail-order businesses that publish consumer reviews on cyber malls and similar online storefronts. Under Article 21-4, such operators are required to publicly disclose information on how consumer reviews are collected and processed. The required disclosures cover, firstly, the criteria for who is authorised to write reviews, secondly, the period for which reviews remain posted, thirdly, the criteria for ratings and deletion, and fourthly, the procedure for contesting a deletion. Failure to comply with the disclosure obligation attracts an administrative fine of up to KRW 10 million under Article 45(4)(8) of the Act.
