On 10 February 2026, the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) published the findings of its market review on the digital economy ecosystem under the Competition Act 2010. The review, which began in July 2024, assessed market structure and business practices in mobile operating systems and payment services, retail e-commerce platforms, digital advertising services, and online travel agencies. The report identified practices that may affect competition, including high commission structures, restrictive contractual terms, limited transparency in pricing mechanisms, and control over consumer data. The review also highlighted cross-cutting concerns relating to privacy and data protection. MyCC announced 18 policy recommendations, including the proposed establishment of a Central Digital Economy Taskforce adopting a whole-of-government approach and enhanced enforcement coordination in relation to online travel agencies. The review further addressed digital taxation, noting that Service Tax on Digital Services revenue reached MYR 1.62 billion in 2024 and identifying a potential tax contribution gap. The findings and recommendations may inform future enforcement action and regulatory initiatives.
