The Irish government has published the draft of the Online Safety and Media Regulation Bill 2022 on 12 January 2022. Besides aiming to strengthen online safety, the Bill also intends to achieve a number of other important legal reforms, such as transposing the Audiovisual Media Services Directive and adding a registration requirement for video on-demand platforms. The Bill is expected to improve the oversight mechanism of audio-visual media services in Ireland with the creation of a new Media Commission, which will replace Ireland's Broadcasting Authority. On-demand audiovisual media services will be compelled to register with the Media Commission.
