On 10 July 2025, the Competition Authority announced that it resumed its imposition of a daily administrative fine on Google, initially enforced due to Google's failure to implement new designs for local search services related to hotel queries. Specifically, Google was found to have self-preferenced its own local search and hotel price comparison services, in violation of Article 6 of Law No. 4054. The decision to impose the fine first occurred on 9 May 2024, and followed the Authority's determination on 8 April 2024 that Google had not complied with its obligations to rectify previously identified anti-competitive practices in the market for general search services. The fine was suspended on 10 June 2024, when Google complied with its obligations by 21 May 2024. However, in its meeting on 26 June 2025, the Competition Board determined that Google implemented new designs labelled as "Business Ads" under the "paid sponsored advertising" label, which have the same characteristics and functionality as the local search designs in question. The Board has found this to be a breach of the obligation and has imposed a fine of TLY 355'143'671.89.
