On 10 June 2024, the Competition Authority concluded its imposition of a daily administrative fine on Google, initially enforced due to Google's failure to implement new designs for local search services related to hotel queries. The decision followed the Authority's determination that Google had not complied with its obligations to rectify previously identified anti-competitive practices in the market for general search services. Specifically, Google was found to have self-preferenced its own local search and hotel price comparison services, in violation of Article 6 of Law No. 4054. Despite the Authority's imposition of obligations on Google to address the self-referencing and the subsequent proposal of precautionary measures by Google, it was later discovered that Google had not implemented the agreed-upon designs for hotel queries, leading to the daily fine. The fine was terminated after Google fulfilled its obligations by implementing the necessary designs by 21 May 2024, resulting in a total penalty of approximately TRY 482 million.
