Description

European Commission submitted proposal for a Regulation repealing Regulation (EU) No 524/2013 pertaining to discontinuation of the European online dispute resolution platform

On 17 October 2023, the European Commission proposed a regulation to repeal Regulation (EU) No 524/2013, discontinuing the European Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) Platform due to its low use. It was highlighted that only about 200 cases are resolved annually despite millions of visitors. The Regulation also amends related Regulations (EU) 2017/2394 and 2018/1724 to remove references to the platform. The proposal relieves online traders from the obligation to link to the ODR platform, mandates deletion of personal data six months after closure, and aims to reduce regulatory burdens.
