On 16 June 2025, the National Assembly of Vietnam passed amendments to Law No. 16/2012/QH13 on Advertising. The Act introduces obligations for entities engaged in advertising, including service providers, online platforms, media carriers, and influencers. The revised Law adds Article 15a on the rights and duties of advertising transmitters, including obligations to provide documents upon request and potential joint liability in cases of false advertising. It tightens responsibilities for influencers, requiring them to verify advertiser credibility and disclose relevant information, while maintaining flexibility for celebrity participation. The Law also strengthens controls over online advertising by prohibiting advertisements on illegal platforms and clarifying that foreign advertisers must comply with Vietnamese law when targeting users in Vietnam, without requiring local legal representation.
