On 21 March 2025, the Decree proposing the amendment of various articles of the political constitution of the United Mexican States was partially implemented, modifying the governance of regulatory authorities, including data protection oversight. The amendment includes dissolution of the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information, and Protection of Personal Data (INAI), with its functions transferred to the Secretariat of Anti-Corruption and Good Governance (SABG), following the entry into force of the Federal Law on the protection of personal data held by private parties. The decree aims to streamline government structure, designating several autonomous bodies for elimination.
