Minister of Communication and Digital announced development of child protection regulations in digital realm

On 2 February 2025, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) announced the creation of a team to strengthen child protection regulations in the digital space. The initiative, following the President’s directive, aims to enhance oversight, introduce age restrictions for social media use, improve digital literacy, and enforce measures against harmful content. The team includes representatives from government, academia, NGOs, and practitioners, and are requested to provide the draft regulations within two months. The Ministry noted that the initiative follows data highlighting high exposure of Indonesian children to online risks, including 5.5 million child pornography cases reported over four years.
