United Kingdom: CMA closes consultation on investigation into Google’s mobile ecosystem

On 12 February 2025, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) closed its public consultation regarding its investigation into Google’s mobile ecosystem, including its operating systems, app stores and browsers that operate on mobile devices. In particular, the CMA is investigating whether to designate Google as having strategic market status (SMS) in the provision of its mobile ecosystem, including its mobile operating system (Android), native app distribution (Google Play Store, third party app stores, sideloading and pre-installation of certain apps), and mobile browser and browser engine (Chrome and Blink).
