CMA opened consultation on investigation into Google’s mobile ecosystem

On 23 January 2025, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced an investigation into Google’s mobile ecosystem (operating systems, app stores and browsers that operate on mobile devices) and opened a public consultation until 12 February 2025. In particular, the CMA is investigating whether to designate Google as having strategic market status (SMS) in the provision of its mobile ecosystem, including its mobile operating system (Android), native app distribution (Google Play Store, third-party app stores, sideloading and pre-installation of certain apps), and mobile browser and browser engine (Chrome and Blink).
