On 30 August 2024, the Brazilian Data Protection Authority (ANPD) announced it had suspended the preventive measures imposed on Meta banning the company from processing personal data from its platforms for AI training purposes under its new privacy policy. The announcement follows the approval by the ANPD of a Compliance Plan presented by Meta outlining several measures that will be implemented by the company, including sending Facebook and Instagram users notifications with clear and accessible information on the data processing carried out for training its AI system, updating its Privacy Notice and banners on its privacy page with more precise information about the processing of personal data to train generative AI models, informing users about their right to object to the processing of personal data for AI training purposes, and refraining from using personal data from accounts of minors under the age of eighteen to train its AI model.
