Announced ANPD phase 2 investigation into Meta platform Threads’ compliance with LGPD

On 24 July 2023, the Brazilian Data Protection Authority (ANPD) announced that it will continue its investigation into Meta platform Threads’ compliance with General Data Protection Law (LGPD) following the issuing of the preliminary findings of the General Coordination for Technology and Research (CGTP) on the processing of personal data on the platform. The CGTP preliminary findings specify that the platform Threads doesn’t provide advertising, including personalised advertising, and is not monetising the user's personal data and that Meta intends to integrate Threads into the ActivityPub protocol. The ANPD will continue to investigate the data collection and processing practices and compliance with the data subject rights.
