Description

Entry into force with grace period of California Bill No.694

On 5 October 2021 the Bill No. 694 was signed into law by California Governor Newsom. The act amends the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020, makes technical changes to the California Civil Code sections 1798.140, 1798.100.40 and 1798.185, and clarifies the timing of the California Privacy Protection Agency rulemaking authority. The Agency has the authority to adopt regulations beginning the later of July 1, 2021, or six months after it provides notice to the Attorney General that it is prepared to begin rulemaking, and the bill clarifies that it should be the later of the two dates. The law will come into effect on 1 January 2022.
