Adopted Bill No. 694 amending California Consumer Privacy Act of 2020

On 9 September 2021 the Bill No. 694 was adopted by the Californian Senate after passing the CA Assembly on 13 May 2021. The bill amends the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (CPRA) and makes technical changes to the California Civil Code sections 1798.140, 1798.100.40, and 1798.185, and clarifies the timing of the California Privacy Protection Agency's rulemaking authority. The Agency has the authority to adopt regulations beginning the later of July 1, 2021, or six months after the agency provides notice to the Attorney General that it is prepared to begin rulemaking. The bill clarifies that it should be the later of the two dates. The act will be implemented if it is enacted alongside the bill AB 335.
