Russia: Adopted Bill no. 570420-7 amending Act on Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection and Act on Communications including registration requirement

On 28 July 2023, Bill no. 570420-7, amending the Act on Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection and Act on Communications, was adopted by the Federal Council. The Bill requires the hosting provider to notify the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) before commencing operations involving hosting information on a system permanently connected to the Internet. Additionally, hosting providers must ensure compliance with information protection requirements established by Roskomnadzor. The Roskomnadzor will maintain a register of hosting providers, and the entities that are not included are prohibited from offering their services in Russia. The entities are required to notify Roskomnadzor by 15 December 2023. The entities that are not included in the register will be prohibited from offering services starting 1 February 2024.
