Description

Vetoed Bill for the Protection of Minors on Social Media Platforms (HB 1)

On 1 March 2024, the Florida Bill for the Protection of Minors on Social Media Platforms (HB 1) was vetoed by Florida governor DeSantis, anticipating the adoption of a more comprehensive bill. The amended Bill would have required social media platforms to prohibit users under the age of 16 from opening accounts and verify the age of users. The platforms that would have allowed users under the age of 18 would have been requireded to clearly disclose a number of policies, including content moderation policies and whether they have addictive or deceptive design features.
