Introduced Protection of Minors on Social Media Platforms (HB 1)

On 5 January 2024, the Florida Bill for the Protection of Minors on Social Media Platforms (HB 1) was introduced into the Florida House of Representatives. The Bill requires social media platforms to develop and implement a content moderation policy to protect minors from certain content, in particular from exposure to sexual exploitation or abuse, through the use of natural language processing techniques and computer vision techniques. Platforms will be required to verify the age of users, restrict certain content for minors, and provide parental or legal guardian controls. In addition, platforms will be required to use algorithms and real-time monitoring systems, report suspicious activity, provide safety alerts, and conduct periodic reviews.
