Announced launch of CMA investigation into merger between Vodafone and CK Hutchinson

On 26 January 2024, the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced the launch of its Phase 1 investigation into the proposed merger between Vodafone and Hutchison 3G UK. The merger would combine the companies’ telecommunications operations under one single network provider. The CMA is evaluating whether the proposed joint venture between both mobile telecommunications providers would result in a substantial lessening of competition and, if so, whether an in-depth Phase 2 investigation is required.
