Adopted Circular on Artificial Intelligence Ethics

On 19 December 2023, the Ministry of Communication and Information of Indonesia adopted a Circular on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use and Development. The Circular, addressed to AI-based programming businesses in both public and private sectors, outlines three key policies: ethical values, implementation of ethical values, and responsibility in AI use and development. The highlighted ethical values encompass inclusivity, accessibility, security, humanity, credibility, and accountability. The circular also provides guidelines for implementing these values, such as using AI to support human activities, protecting privacy and data, and supervising use to prevent misuse. Furthermore, it highlights the responsibility of the public and private sectors in ensuring AI is not used as a policy or decision maker, providing information on AI development to prevent negative impacts, and managing risks in AI development.
