On 14 September 2023, Assembly Bill A836, amending labour law by prohibiting employers from requesting or requiring employees or applicants to disclose personal account information, was signed by the New York State Governor. The Bill would prevent employers from requiring the disclosure of username and login information, including passwords, as a condition of employment, maintenance of employment status, or for use in disciplinary actions. The Bill enters into force 180 days following its signing into law.
