On 11 May 2023, the European Parliament Committees on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) adopted their position on the Act on Harmonised Rules for Artificial Intelligence (AI Act), including provisions establishing a European AI Board. In particular, the draft AI Act establishes the mandate and duties of the European Artificial Intelligence Office, which would be an independent body of the Union. The Office would monitor and ensure compliance with the Act, coordinate joint investigations, cooperate and coordinate with national supervisory authorities and provide guidance on the Act's obligations. The subsequent legislative procedure is for the European Parliament to endorse the draft in plenary during the session in June 2023.
