On 30 April 2023, the G7 countries released a Ministerial Declaration following the G7 Digital and Tech Ministers' Meeting held in Gunma, Japan, from 29 to 30 April 2023. The Declaration addressed six main areas, including cross-border data flows, digital infrastructure, internet governance, emerging and disruptive technologies, responsible artificial intelligence (AI) and digital competition. The Declaration endorsed the G7 Action Plan for promoting global interoperability between tools for trustworthy AI and agreed to convene discussions on generative AI. The Declaration commits the G7 countries to promote collaboration and the development of technical standards to ensure the deployment of trustworthy AI in line with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) AI Principles. Furthermore, the Declaration stressed the importance of international frameworks and discussions on governing AI to encourage emerging and developing economies to adopt the OECD AI Principles.
