Adopted European Parliament position for negotiations on Regulation establishing a framework for a European Digital Identity
On 16 March 2023, the European Parliament confirmed the negotiating mandate for talks with the Council of the European Union on the Regulation establishing a framework for a European Digital Identity (eID). The scheme would allow citizens to identify and authenticate themselves online through a European digital identity wallet without having to resort to commercial providers. The Regulation would also include provisions concerning minimum security features to protect personal identification data. Following the decision, the discussions with the Council on the final version of the legislation will start.
