On 8 February 2023, the Mississippi Senate passed the Mississippi Digital Asset Mining Act (SB 2603). The Act legalises both home digital asset mining and mining in industrial areas and provides an exemption for the purchase and sale of virtual currency under the Mississippi Money Transmitters Act. The Act states that no additional limits on the sound generated by home digital asset mining beyond other forms of sound pollution levels shall be imposed and that there will be no discrimination in electricity prices for digital asset mining businesses. If passed, the Act would also create a Mississippi Digital Asset Mining Council comprising representatives appointed by the Governor, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House, members of the public, government officials, and a representative of an environmental non-profit organisation. The Council would be tasked with evaluating the impact of digital asset mining on the state's economy, environment, and power grid. The Act now goes to the Mississippi House of Representatives for adoption.
