Description

Adopted European Parliament position on Directive on improving working conditions in platform work including regulation of employment status

On 2 February 2023, the European Parliament approved the decision to begin negotiations concerning the proposed Directive with new measures to improve conditions for workers on digital labour platforms which would include regulations on the working status of people working for digital platforms. The proposal would create a (rebuttable) legal presumption of employment status for work through digital platforms in case of a dispute. Further, it would introduce a set of non-mandatory criteria to determine employment status. The mandate for negotiations was subject to a vote of the full Parliament after sufficient objections were raised against its initial announcement.
