Appeals Court reduces IMY GDPR fine against Google following renewed appeal

On 30 November 2021, the Gothenburg Court of Appeal issued a judgment in a case between Google LLC and the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) concerning Google's practice in complying with the right to be forgotten under the GDPR . The case concerns Google's practice of informing webmasters when it removes a search result in compliance with the right to be forgotten guaranteed by the GDPR. The Court of Appeal agreed with the Administrative Court and the initial investigation by IMY that this practice constituted a breach of the GDPR. The Court of Appeal also found that Google had not failed to remove search results with undue delay, therefore lowering the penalty from SEK 52 million to SEK 50 million.
